It was a day of power surges and promising performances across the New York Yankees' minor league system on May 13th, headlined by a grand slam that turned a tight game into a blowout.
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders: W, 7-0 vs. Syracuse Mets
The RailRiders got a dominant pitching performance from Brendan Beck, who struck out nine over 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. But the story of the game was Kenedy Corona, who crushed a grand slam in a six-run fourth inning to break the game wide open. Oswaldo Cabrera continued his rehab assignment with two hits and an RBI, while Jonathan Ornelas added two more RBIs. The bullpen trio of Bradley Hanner, Kervin Castro, and the rest held Syracuse scoreless to complete the shutout.
Double-A Somerset Patriots: L, 4-5 vs. Binghamton Rumble Ponies
Despite a late rally, the Patriots fell just short. Owen Cobb provided the spark with his second home run of the year, a two-run shot that cut the deficit to one in the eighth inning. Cade Smith took the loss after allowing five runs over 5.1 innings, but Eric Reyzelman impressed with four strikeouts in two scoreless frames. Garrett Martin and Jace Avina each reached base twice to lead the offense.
High-A Hudson Valley Renegades: L, 4-5 vs. Frederick Keys
Enmanuel Tejeda announced his arrival at High-A in style, launching his first home run at the level—a three-run blast that gave the Renegades a 4-1 lead. Luis Serna was sharp on the mound, allowing just two runs while striking out eight over six innings. But the bullpen couldn't hold the lead, as Chris Veach was tagged for three runs in the ninth to take the loss and a blown save. Camden Troyer also made a highlight-reel play, robbing a home run in the fourth inning.
Single-A Tampa Tarpons: W, 7-5 vs. Clearwater Threshers
The Tarpons' top of the lineup put on a show, going back-to-back in the sixth inning. Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek was a one-man wrecking crew, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and three stolen bases. Jackson Lovich also went deep, and Hans Montero added a triple and a homer of his own. The power display proved too much for Clearwater to overcome, as Tampa held on for the win.
