The Yankees' minor league system was buzzing with action on May 15th, and while the big-league club continues its season, several prospects are making strong cases for future call-ups. From standout slugging to jaw-dropping defense, here's how the affiliates fared.
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders: L, 8-2 vs. Syracuse Mets
It was a tough night for the RailRiders, but Oswaldo Cabrera continues to heat up. The versatile infielder went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, showing the kind of form that made him a fan favorite. Shortstop George Lombard Jr. struggled at the plate (0-for-3) but managed to swipe a bag. On the mound, Don Hamel took the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) over six innings, while Danny Watson provided a bright spot with two scoreless frames.
Double-A Somerset Patriots: W, 7-3 vs. Binghamton Rumble Ponies
The Patriots are on fire, and so are two of their hottest hitters. Jace Avina stayed scorching hot, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and an RBI—giving him back-to-back homers and a .930 OPS on the season. Meanwhile, Garrett Martin crushed his 12th home run of the year, driving in four runs and making an unbelievable catch in center field that had fans buzzing on social media. Jack Cebert earned the win with a stellar start: 5.2 innings, one run, and seven strikeouts.
High-A Hudson Valley Renegades: L, 4-3 vs. Frederick Keys
The Renegades came up just short, but Kyle West provided the highlight with a solo home run to straightaway center—his fifth of the season. Kaeden Kent also chipped in with a 2-for-4 night. On the mound, Rory Fox battled through six innings, allowing four runs while striking out eight, but took the loss. The bullpen trio of Brandon Decker, Hansel Rincon, and Andrew Landry combined for three scoreless innings to keep the game close.
