There is a difficult path to playing time in the Majors.

The New York Yankees have made a calculated move in their outfield pipeline, promoting 26-year-old Venezuelan outfielder Kenedy Corona from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The decision comes after Corona posted a solid .741 OPS to start the season, batting .250 with three home runs and 12 RBIs.

Corona's journey to the Yankees organization is an interesting one. He originally signed as an international free agent with the New York Mets back in 2019, but was traded to the Houston Astros just eight months later as part of the Jake Marisnick deal. After appearing in three MLB games with the Astros in 2025, he joined the Yankees on a minor league contract this past offseason.

During spring training, Corona turned heads with his combination of power and speed, launching two home runs and swiping seven bags in 10 attempts. That versatility is what makes him an intriguing depth piece for a Yankees team that's already loaded with outfield talent.

Of course, the path to playing time in the Bronx remains crowded. Top prospect Spencer Jones, a 6-foot-6 center fielder with immense potential, is already stuck at Triple-A despite numbers that would earn him regular at-bats on most rebuilding clubs. Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and the rest of New York's outfield core aren't going anywhere, making Corona's climb an uphill battle.

Still, the promotion signals that the Yankees see value in his development. For a player who has bounced between organizations, getting one step closer to the Majors is a significant vote of confidence. Whether he can force his way into the conversation remains to be seen, but for now, Corona's hard work has earned him a new challenge in Scranton.
