New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. is facing an uncertain financial future, and it has nothing to do with his performance on the field.

As Major League Baseball braces for a potential lockout this offseason, the ripple effects are already being felt—especially for players like Chisholm who are set to hit free agency. According to ESPN's Kiley McDaniel, while Chisholm was once viewed as a strong candidate for a nine-figure contract, the looming labor dispute could change everything.

"The assumption is that a lockout will happen again," McDaniel wrote. "Which teams are eager enough to spend to sign big-ticket players before Dec. 1? And which players are important enough to get the offers they'd want to sign before the CBA expires?"

McDaniel noted that with top free agent Tarik Skubal's market now murky due to injury, Chisholm and Milwaukee's Freddy Peralta are among the next tier of players with the strongest cases for a major payday. But the timing couldn't be worse for the 28-year-old, who has struggled at the plate in 2026.

There's still a chance a team rolls the dice on Chisholm's dynamic talent—his speed, power, and defensive versatility make him an intriguing piece for any contender. But if MLB institutes a salary cap or teams tighten their wallets ahead of a lockout, he could be the type of player most affected by the uncertainty.

For now, all eyes are on the December 1 deadline. Whether Chisholm secures a life-changing deal or has to wait out the storm will be one of the more compelling storylines of the offseason.
