Yankees fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief: top prospect Jasson Domínguez has avoided a trip to the injured list after taking a scary hit to the elbow earlier this week.

During Wednesday's loss to the Rangers, Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi caught "The Martian" with an 89.1-mph cutter that struck him squarely on the left elbow in the fourth inning. While Domínguez initially stayed in the game to run, he was forced to exit in the bottom of the frame with a contusion. X-rays taken at Globe Life Field came back inconclusive, raising concerns.

But the news took a positive turn on Thursday when a CT scan performed in New York came back clean. Yankees manager Aaron Boone shared the update before Friday's series opener against the Orioles, noting that Domínguez has shown "significant improvement" since the incident.

"We got good news on that front," Boone said. "We were kind of holding our breath a little bit yesterday with that, but it came back clean. He was much improved yesterday, much improved today, so I think we avoided something there."

The 23-year-old outfielder was back to baseball activities before Friday's game—an encouraging sign that had him even taking flips from Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second base. Boone hopes to have Domínguez available off the bench Friday and potentially back in the starting lineup as early as Saturday.

This is a best-case scenario for Domínguez, who was playing in just his third major league game of the season after earning a promotion Monday. The switch-hitting phenom didn't make the Yankees' Opening Day roster, as the team prioritized giving him everyday reps to refine his defense and right-handed swing. However, with Giancarlo Stanton landing on the IL with a calf strain and Randal Grichuk being designated for assignment, Domínguez now has a clear path to consistent big-league at-bats—at least until Stanton returns.

Speaking of Stanton, Boone noted that the slugger hasn't run since suffering his injury last week in Houston. The manager hopes Stanton can begin hitting this weekend but couldn't provide a timeline for his return. Meanwhile, Boone confirmed it's possible that Carlos Rodón (elbow cleanup procedure) may only need one more rehab start before rejoining the rotation.

For now, the Yankees and their fans can celebrate dodging a major scare with one of their brightest young stars.
