The New York Yankees made a notable roster move on Wednesday.

Left-hander Ryan Weathers was placed on the paternity list, meaning someone from a Triple-A will replace him on the roster.

The Yankees opted to call up reliever Jake Bird, who was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after a bad outing against the Los Angeles Angels on April 13.

Bird's 7.71 ERA is less than pretty, and it skyrocketed after allowing a game-tying three-run home run to Mike Trout. However, the Yankees may not even use Bird during this Major League stint.

Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:• Placed LHP Ryan Weathers on the paternity list.• Recalled RHP Jake Bird (#59) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

MLB allows players one to three days to be away from their club upon the birth of their child. Weathers was not listed as a probable starter in New York's series against the Boston Red Sox, so he should make it back in time for his next start.

If all goes according to plan, the Yankees will likely send Bird back to Triple-A when Weathers returns. They could also use him in a low-leverage situation to build up his confidence.

Bird was acquired at last year's trade deadline from the Colorado Rockies but was sent down after just three outings in relief. His Yankees tenure is not playing out as expected.
