Yan Diomande is taking the Bundesliga by storm. At just 19 years old, the RB Leipzig winger has burst onto the scene in his debut season, dazzling fans with his electrifying dribbling and technical flair. But this Ivorian sensation isn't just turning heads—he's dreaming big, and he's named some of the biggest stars in world football as his inspiration.
Speaking at a media roundtable this week, Diomande opened up about the players who have shaped his game. "My idol before was Cristiano Ronaldo, and I also like R9," he shared, referencing the legendary Brazilian forward. But the teenager's current focus is on two Real Madrid superstars. "I'm looking at a lot of players, like Vinícius and Mbappé. I try to watch players in my position to take the good things and reproduce them on the pitch."
It's a bold ambition for a player who only recently stepped onto the big stage, but Diomande isn't shy about his goals. "I want to become one of the best players in Africa and in Europe," he declared. Yet, he's refreshingly grounded, insisting on taking things "step by step."
"I'm working to improve everything every day because I'm not perfect," the winger explained. "For me, you need to work every day to try to improve something. Even 1 percent every day is good. I'm not going to stop working because I still make a lot of mistakes and I have a goal."
Diomande credits the club's structure for helping him grow. "You have everything here; you have a structure, and the coach is helping you, so it's easy to work on the pitch and learn off it as well."
Pressure? He thrives on it. "Sometimes it's good to have pressure from the fans and from your teammates. You have to fight with yourself," Diomande said. "If you didn't have a good game, you need to recognise that, forget it, and work hard for the next one. I've had some bad games this season, but everyone knows I want to fight every day and do everything for the team. It's not going to work every day, but you have to give everything."
With that kind of mindset—and a nod to the world's best—Yan Diomande is a name you'll want to remember. Whether he's chasing Mbappé's speed or Vinícius's flair, this young star is on a mission to leave his mark on the pitch.
