Galal Yafai's bout with unified flyweight world champion Ricardo Sandoval is postponed after the Briton sustains an injury in training.

In a tough break for British boxing fans, Galal Yafai's highly anticipated world title showdown with unified flyweight champion Ricardo Sandoval has been postponed. The Olympic gold medalist suffered an injury during training, forcing the delay of what was set to be a career-defining moment for the 33-year-old from Birmingham.

This marks the second time the June 6 card in Sheffield has lost its headliner. Earlier, Dalton Smith's British WBC light-welterweight title defense against Alberto Puello was also scrapped due to injury. It's a frustrating turn of events for a card that promised fireworks.

Yafai, who hasn't stepped into the ring since his controversial loss to Francisco Rodriguez Jr. last June—later overturned to a no-contest after Rodriguez failed a drug test—has been eager to prove himself. With an undefeated pro record of 10 fights (seven wins by knockout), the Tokyo 2021 gold medalist is a rising force in the flyweight division. His power and precision have made him a fan favorite, and this setback only delays what many believe is his inevitable rise to the top.

Despite the disappointment, the show at Sheffield's Utilita Arena will go on. The main event now features Josh Padley defending his European super-featherweight title against Aqib Fiaz—a matchup that promises plenty of action. The undercard is stacked with local talent, including undefeated teenage heavyweight Leo Atang fighting in his native Yorkshire, alongside fellow rising stars Adam Maca and Connor Mitchell.

Coventry's Aaron Bowen will face Troy Coleman in a middleweight clash, while Ibraheem Sulaimaan takes on Ibrahim Nadim for the English super-featherweight belt. For fight fans, this card still offers a night of compelling bouts, even without its original headliner.
