Oklahoma basketball fans, rejoice! The Sooners' most crucial offseason domino has fallen, and it's the best possible news for the program. Star guard Xzayvier Brown made it official on Monday, announcing via Instagram that he will return to Norman for the 2026-27 season.

Brown's decision is a massive win for head coach Porter Moser. After transferring from St. Joseph's last season, Brown immediately became the engine of the Sooners' offense, averaging 14.4 points per game—good for second on the team—while leading Oklahoma in both assists (3.3) and steals (1.3) per contest. His dynamic playmaking and scoring were central to the team's identity.

His return provides rare and valuable continuity. This marks only the second time in Moser's six-year tenure that the Sooners will welcome back their starting point guard for consecutive seasons, offering a stable foundation as the team navigates the tough SEC.

Brown's announcement capped a productive Monday for the program, which also secured a commitment from former Louisville forward Khani Rooths. Rooths is expected to help fill the void left by the departed Tae Davis, adding to a frontcourt that will also feature returning contributors Derrion Reid (11.7 PPG) and Kuol Atak (7.0 PPG).

The Sooners are looking to build on a season of resilience. After a brutal 1-9 start in SEC play, they rallied impressively to earn an NCAA Tournament berth and made a thrilling run to the finals of the College Basketball Crown tournament before falling to West Virginia.

With Brown's leadership secured, the focus now shifts to bolstering the backcourt. New general manager Lucas McKay's next task is to find backcourt support following the graduation of leading scorer Nijel Pack and reserve Jadon Jones. One thing is clear: with Xzayvier Brown back in crimson and cream, Oklahoma's ceiling for next season just got a whole lot higher.
