The Xavier Musketeers' backcourt just got a major boost. On Wednesday, the program secured a commitment from UAB transfer guard Chance Westry, adding a dynamic and proven playmaker to their roster for the upcoming season.
Westry's journey to Cincinnati has been defined by resilience. A highly-touted four-star recruit, his early career at Auburn and Syracuse was hampered by significant injuries, limiting his time on the court. However, he found his stride last season at UAB, flourishing under coach Andy Kennedy to post impressive averages of 15.5 points and a conference-leading 5.5 assists per game, earning second-team all-conference honors.
Now, with two years of eligibility remaining, Westry arrives at Xavier ranked as a four-star transfer and a top-40 portal prospect. His ability to score and facilitate at a high level addresses a key need for the Musketeers, offering immediate backcourt versatility and experience.
He becomes the fourth transfer portal addition for head coach Sean Miller this offseason, joining Mike Nwoko, Rubén Dominguez, and Tru Washington. With returning players and a solid recruiting class, Westry's commitment solidifies Xavier's backcourt as the team continues to build a competitive roster for the tough battles ahead in the Big East.
