Xavier University is celebrating a historic weekend on the golf course, as both the men's and women's teams punched their tickets to the NCAA Tournament after dominating the Big East Championships on May 4. The Musketeers are making major waves, and it's a thrilling time for the program.
Leading the charge on the men's side is freshman sensation Cayse Morgan, a local product from Elder High School who captured the individual title with a stunning performance. Morgan carded a 14-under-par 202 at Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club in Hardeeville, South Carolina, tying the 54-hole Big East Championship record. His steady play under pressure helped Xavier secure its first team championship since 2005, edging out runner-up Marquette (847) and third-place Creighton (852) with a total score of 843.
Morgan wasn't alone in his brilliance. Teammates Kyle Smith (5-under) and A.J. Wilhelm (1-under) also finished under par, while Kellen Dean (1-over) and Carson Bellish (8-over) rounded out a deep lineup that proved too strong for the conference field. The team's depth was key to their narrow victory over Marquette.
Fresh off this triumph, Xavier will learn its NCAA regional destination on Wednesday, May 6. The Musketeers are eyeing a deep postseason run, and with Morgan's hot hand, they have every reason to be confident.
Meanwhile, the women's team continued its reign of dominance, capturing a seventh consecutive Big East title at Callawassie Island Club in Okatie, South Carolina, on April 27. The women finished 7-over par (871) as a team, led by medalist Madison Reemsnyder. Reemsnyder's final round of 5-under 67 was the second-lowest in tournament history, and she will compete in the Kroger Queen City Championship later this month.
Teammates Isabel Brozena (+2) and Darrelyn Webster (+4) finished second and third individually, showcasing the program's incredible depth. The women's team learned on April 29 that they will head to the NCAA Louisville Regional at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky, from May 11-13.
With both squads heading to the NCAA Tournament, Xavier golf is proving that hard work and teamwork pay off. Whether you're a fan or a player, this is the kind of momentum that inspires greatness—on and off the course.
