At some point, you just have to tip your cap to excellence in a high-leverage situation—and Xavier men's golf delivered exactly that. In a stunning turnaround at the 2026 Big East Men's Golf Championship, the Musketeers exploded for a team score of 13 under par on Monday alone to seize the title, finishing the three-round event at Riverton Pointe Golf Club with a total of 21 under par. That was enough to edge out Marquette, who settled for second place at 17 under par, while DePaul rounded out the top three at 12 under.

Here's where the drama really heats up: Xavier entered Monday trailing Marquette by three strokes and sitting behind DePaul by two. But the Musketeers didn't just play well—they played historically. Their 13-under round on Monday was the best single-round team score of the entire tournament, surpassing every other team's three-round total except Marquette's 17 under. The Golden Eagles, who had shot 6 under and 5 under in Sunday's 36-hole marathon, could only manage 6 under on Monday, leaving them four strokes short of Xavier's final tally.

Leading the charge for Xavier was Cayse Morgan, who captured the individual title with a blistering 8-under 64 on Monday. That performance capped a 54-hole total of 14 under par (202), tying Louisville's Derek Fathauer (2006) for the lowest score in Big East championship history. Morgan's 8-under round also tied the conference record for the lowest single round to par. He wasn't alone in the spotlight, though—every player in Xavier's lineup shot par or better on Monday, with three finishing under par for the tournament.

For Marquette, junior Mischa Candinas provided a bright spot, shooting a 4-under 68 on Monday to finish at 7 under for the tournament. That earned him third place individually—the Golden Eagles' best finish this season—and a well-deserved spot on the all-tournament team. Johan Widal also contributed with a 1-under 71 on Monday, finishing at 4 under for the tournament and tying for ninth place, giving Marquette two top-10 finishers.

It was a championship that came down to the final round, and Xavier's explosive performance proved that in golf, as in life, it's not how you start—it's how you finish. For the Musketeers, this first-ever Big East men's golf title is a testament to resilience, precision, and the kind of clutch play that defines champions.
