Wrexham AFC fans, get ready for an even more electrifying season ahead. Former player and manager Brian Flynn has confidently predicted that the Red Dragons will come back "stronger and better" for the 2026-27 campaign, following a nail-biting finish to the current season that saw them narrowly miss out on the Championship play-offs.
Phil Parkinson's squad put on a remarkable show this year, securing their highest-ever league finish. But it was a heart-stopping final day that decided their fate, as Hull City snatched the sixth and final play-off spot. Despite the disappointment, the team's resilience and growth have been undeniable, and Flynn believes this is just the beginning.
"I think they need at least three or four players," Flynn shared with BBC Radio Wales Sport. "Is that a major overhaul? I don't think so. Phil does like employing strikers, that's for certain. In all other areas of the pitch, I think they're well served."
Flynn highlighted key performers who will be crucial to Wrexham's push next season. "Players like Ollie Rathbone have come up with important goals, Josh Windass is a Championship player, so they will definitely come back stronger and better next season, without a shadow of a doubt." He also praised defender Dom Hyam, calling him "excellent all season" and "a really good signing."
The season ended on a high note with an exciting 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough at Stok Cae Ras. After falling behind to an early goal from Tommy Conway, Wrexham roared back with a stunning free-kick from Josh Windass and a bullet header from Sam Smith. Although Middlesbrough leveled the score, the performance showcased the grit and quality that has defined Wrexham's campaign.
"It was two really good teams," Flynn reflected. "After the early goal, I was really impressed with the way Wrexham shrugged off the disappointment of conceding so soon. The passing and movement was quick, they were a threat. It was a good advert for the Championship."
As Wrexham looks ahead to the summer transfer window, the message from the club legend is clear: this team is hungry, talented, and ready to make an even bigger impact next season. For fans, that means more thrilling matches, standout performances, and a squad that's built to compete at the highest level. Gear up, Wrexham—the best is yet to come.
