HOUSTON – While Nelly Korda took off like a rocket in Houston, a number of big names never got off the ground at the Chevron Championship.
A total of 72 players made the cut at Memorial Park, which fell at 2 over par. Every player who missed the weekend in Texas receives $10,000 to help cover expenses.
Stanford's Andrea Revuelta and Paula Martin Sampedro both made the cut on the number, as did three-time major winner Minjee Lee and 2022 Chevron winner Jennifer Kupcho.
World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul headlines the MC list. The best player in golf without a major title shot 74-73 to miss the weekend for the first time this season. The 23-year-old had never missed the cut in this championship in her previous five appearances.
Three-time major winner Lydia Ko shot 72-75. She made four bogeys in her last seven holes to shoot 40 on Friday. Ko hit only nine greens in the second round. She sounded under the weather on Thursday.
Recent Stanford grad Rose Zhang shot 73-74 to join the long list of notables who missed by one shot. Zhang carded two double-bogeys on Friday. It's her second missed cut in two weeks.
Rookie Mimi Rhodes started off strong with a 3-under 69, but then ballooned to a 78 on Friday. She hit only six fairways in the second round and recorded two doubles.
Newlywed Jin Young Ko finished one shot outside the cut line, hitting only seven greens in a second-round 73. In her opening round, she hit 14 greens and took 35 putts.
The LPGA grouped the past three Chevron Championship winners together, which included 2023 champion Lilia Vu. The two-time major winner has had a tough stretch since that magical 2023 season (mostly off the tee) and her struggles continued in Texas, where she shot 76-77 to finish 121st.
