Sportradar exec: Sportsbooks will craft in-game markets that US soccer bettors can pile into parlays

With the World Cup kicking off in just about a month, the excitement is building—and so is the betting action. While soccer is a global game, how fans engage with it varies from country to country. And that includes how they place their wagers.

For American bettors, the trend is clear: same-game parlays (SGPs) are king. According to Darren Small, Senior Vice President of Managed Trading Services at Sportradar, sportsbooks are gearing up to offer a wide range of in-game markets tailored to U.S. fans. The idea? Let bettors stack multiple legs into a single parlay, especially when it comes to player-specific props.

When the U.S. Men’s National Team takes the field on June 12 in Los Angeles, don’t be surprised if the action shifts away from simple moneyline bets. Instead, fans might be more interested in wagering on whether Christian Pulisic scores—and with which body part—or if the U.S. can keep a clean sheet against Paraguay.

“The activation around player props and player markets will be a big push this year,” Small explained. “The U.S. market has really turned toward these player props. People are often more interested in individual performances than the team outcome, and that’s starting to influence other sports, too.”

This shift isn’t just a hunch. BetMGM Trading Manager Seamus Magee agrees, noting that with World Cup games happening in prime-time U.S. hours, a “really big handle” is expected. “SGPs for sure will see a bigger uptick than we’re used to for soccer markets,” he said.

Whether you’re a seasoned bettor or just getting into the action, this year’s World Cup promises a fresh, player-focused way to engage with the beautiful game. So get your gear ready, pick your props, and enjoy the tournament like never before.
