Women's hockey is surging in popularity, and the games have been a popular place for couples to propose.

Love is in the air—and on the ice. While Jumbotron proposals have become a beloved staple at sporting events, one couple from Virginia took the tradition to a whole new level with a creative twist that had the entire arena cheering.

Nina Borgeson and Meg Beizer attended a Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) game between the Toronto Sceptres and the New York Sirens at Toronto's Coca-Cola Center. What started as a simple game break turned into an unforgettable moment when the couple appeared to be playing a "Wheel of Fortune"-style game on the big screen.

As the classic letters R, S, T, L, N, and E lit up the board, the announcer asked Meg what three letters she'd like to guess next. Without missing a beat, she replied, "W, O, U"—making it instantly clear what the puzzle spelled out. The crowd erupted as Meg dropped to one knee, slid a ring onto Nina's finger, and sealed the moment with a kiss. Nina raised her hand in celebration as the arena roared with support.

The couple had traveled all the way from Virginia for the game. When Meg learned it was Pride night, she knew the timing was perfect. "This league quickly became a big part of our life and something so special to us," she told Queerty. "The community is unlike any other fan base I've ever seen. I knew sharing it with other fans would make our proposal that much more special and memorable, and it exceeded expectations. The amount of love and support we received was something we will truly never forget."

This heartfelt moment is part of a growing trend. PWHL games have become a popular destination for LGBTQ women to pop the question. Just last December, during an Ottawa Charge game, a woman named Theresa was being interviewed when she suddenly dropped to one knee and proposed to her partner, Dani, live on camera.

The PWHL is riding a wave of momentum. After completing its third regular season, the league has seen attendance and viewership skyrocket. This season, it expanded from six to eight teams and surpassed one million fans in attendance—a milestone that speaks to the sport's surging popularity and the passionate community it has built.

Whether it's a classic goal celebration or a creative proposal, the PWHL continues to prove that the best moments happen both on and off the ice.
