Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially named Nathan Shi as their permanent executive chairman, marking a new chapter for the club as they navigate life outside the Premier League. Shi, who stepped into the role on an interim basis last December, takes the reins full-time after guiding the team through a turbulent season.
His appointment comes at a critical juncture. When Shi first took over from the embattled Jeff Shi—no relation—in December, Wolves were languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table with just two points and no wins to their name. Despite a spirited effort to turn things around, relegation to the Championship was confirmed last month, ending the club's eight-year stay in England's top flight.
In a statement, the club emphasized that Shi will oversee both strategic direction and day-to-day operations "as Wolves prepare for a crucial summer and the 2026/27 season." The new executive chairman has already been working closely with staff, supporters, and local communities to understand the challenges ahead. "Our focus now is on strengthening the club, building momentum, and creating a team and environment that our supporters can be proud of," Shi said.
Shi brings a wealth of experience from his time with Fosun, the club's parent company, where he has worked since 2016. He now reports directly to the Fosun board, a move the club says will "provide clarity and consistency at the top of the club at an important moment."
"I am honored to take on this role permanently and fully understand the responsibility it brings, particularly at a time like this for the club," Shi added. "Since arriving, I have spent time listening, learning, and building a clear picture of where we are and what needs to improve. That work continues and provides a strong foundation for what comes next."
For fans, there is at least some good news on the horizon. In the wake of relegation, the club announced that all season-ticket holders will receive "a minimum 25% reduction" on their packages for the 2026-27 campaign—a welcome gesture as the club looks to rebuild both on and off the pitch.
