In a turn of events that brings relief to the Dallas Wings and their fans, WNBA star Arike Ogunbowale will no longer face battery charges stemming from a March incident in Miami. According to multiple reports, all charges against the four-time All-Star have been dropped.

The 29-year-old guard was arrested in March after an alleged altercation at a Miami nightclub, where she was accused of punching a security staff member. The staff member was reportedly escorting Ogunbowale out of the venue following an "unrelated altercation" when the punch occurred. Court records indicate that footage from the arrest corroborated the victim's statements. The incident took place just hours after Ogunbowale helped Mist BC secure the Unrivaled championship—a stark contrast to the legal drama that followed.

Ogunbowale was initially charged with misdemeanor battery and posted $1,000 bail. At the time, the Dallas Wings released a statement saying they were gathering more information and would refrain from commenting until they had a clearer picture. In April, Ogunbowale pleaded not guilty to the charge, and no future court dates were set. Shortly after that plea, she agreed to a new deal with the Wings, signaling the team's commitment to their franchise cornerstone.

Ogunbowale's journey to WNBA stardom began at Notre Dame, where she became a household name with clutch performances in the NCAA tournament. Selected by the Wings with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft, she has since become a franchise icon, earning four All-Star nods and three All-WNBA selections over seven seasons—all in Dallas.

However, 2025 was a challenging year for both Ogunbowale and the Wings. She averaged a career-low 15.5 points per game, while the team stumbled to a 10-34 record, securing the top pick in the WNBA Draft for the second consecutive year. That pick was used on UConn standout Azzi Fudd, who joins a roster that also features Paige Bueckers. With this young core, the Wings are hoping for a dramatic turnaround in 2026—and with Ogunbowale's legal troubles now behind her, the focus can return entirely to the court.
