St. Louis' struggling outfield prospect has been showered with opportunities to generate his first hit since April 11.

Baseball slumps can be brutal, but sometimes the cure is as simple as a shower—literally.

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh just proved that point in spectacular fashion. After finding himself in an MLB-worst 0-for-36 rut, Raleigh took teammate Logan Gilbert's advice and showered in full uniform to "wash off the bad mojo." The result? He snapped his hitless streak at 38 at-bats during Wednesday's 10-2 win over the Astros, then promptly started a new consecutive singles streak. Talk about a turnaround.

"Logan gave me some good advice to wash off the bad juju from the baseball gods," Raleigh told the Associated Press. "So, yeah, it worked." His first hit since April 27 came off reliever Jayden Murray in the seventh inning.

Now, all eyes turn to St. Louis Cardinals prospect Thomas Saggese, who has inherited the "pole position" on MLB's consecutive hitless list. The versatile infielder/outfielder hasn't recorded a hit since April 11, spanning 28 consecutive at-bats—and counting.

Tuesday night in Sacramento told the story perfectly. Starting at third base and batting ninth, Saggese faced Athletics starter Jeffrey Springs and went down swinging in both at-bats. First came a four-pitch strikeout on fastballs in the second inning. Then in the fourth, Springs mixed in a slider and changeup to punch him out again. By the sixth inning, the Cardinals had seen enough, pinch-hitting Nolan Gorman, who promptly singled and scored on a two-run homer in a 6-4 win.

The question now: How much longer will St. Louis stick with their struggling prospect? They've already optioned him to Triple-A Memphis once this season. With Raleigh's shower trick working wonders, maybe Saggese should consider a postgame rinse in full uniform before Wednesday's matchup against the Athletics.
