In a thrilling derby that lived up to its "Majestoso" billing, Corinthians emerged victorious with a hard-fought 3-2 win over São Paulo at the Neo Química Arena on Sunday, as part of the 15th round of the 2026 Brasileirão. Despite relentless rain soaking the pitch in Itaquera, the match was nothing short of fiery, delivering drama, stunning goals, and a few costly errors.

The action kicked off when Raniele put Corinthians ahead, but the midfielder's joy was short-lived. A risky attempt to play out from the back—a signature "Diniz-style" move—backfired inside his own box, allowing Bobadilla to set up Luciano for the equalizer. The celebration sparked a heated scuffle between the rivals on the pitch, adding extra spice to an already intense atmosphere. To cap off a chaotic first half, referee Anderson Daronco had to consult VAR to confirm that Bobadilla's celebration did not include an obscene gesture, a moment that social media quickly dubbed "pure Brazilian football at its finest."

After an astonishing 23-minute halftime break, the second half began with a bang. Right-back Matheuzinho channeled his inner Robben, leaving a São Paulo defender on the ground before unleashing a rocket to restore Corinthians' lead at 2-1. With the Tricolor reeling and shaken, Breno Bidon struck from the edge of the box, leaving goalkeeper Rafael with no chance and extending the lead to 3-1.

Corinthians controlled the game from there, but a bizarre own goal by Matheuzinho in the final minutes gave São Paulo a late scare. The hosts held on, however, securing three crucial points. The win lifts Corinthians to 18 points, though they remain in the relegation zone in 17th place on goal difference. São Paulo, meanwhile, stay fourth with 24 points.

Both teams now turn their attention to the Copa do Brasil, with São Paulo visiting Juventude on Wednesday for the second leg of their fifth-round tie, holding a 1-0 advantage. Corinthians host Barra-SC in the same competition, also carrying a 1-0 lead from the first leg. For fans of the beautiful game, this derby was a reminder of why Brazilian football remains so captivating—rain, passion, mistakes, and all.
