The Wisconsin Badgers came up short in their pursuit of Alabama transfer guard Davion Hannah, as the 6-foot-6 Milwaukee native has committed to South Carolina, according to his agency Seros Partners.

Hannah, a former top-50 recruit, was on the Badgers' radar coming out of high school. After a freshman season at Alabama where he averaged just 12.7 minutes per game, a return to his home state seemed like a natural fit. However, head coach Greg Gard couldn't close the deal, and Hannah will stay in the SEC with the Gamecocks.

Injuries played a major role in Hannah's limited action last season. He appeared in only 10 games due to tailbone and back issues, which led to a medical redshirt. This uncertainty may have given Wisconsin pause, especially given the program's current roster construction.

Interestingly, Hannah has AAU experience with Zach Kinzinger, a key piece of the Badgers' future plans for the 2026-27 season. But for now, Hannah will look to prove himself against his former team in the SEC.

The Badgers, known for Gard's steady hand in roster management, have already done impressive work in the transfer portal. Adding another guard wasn't a top priority, and the door may still be open for Hannah to join Wisconsin later in his college career, perhaps for his junior or senior seasons.

For Badgers fans, this is a "wait and see" moment. While it would have been exciting to see a local talent suit up in cardinal and white, Gard's patience and long-term vision have served the program well.
