Once again, the Wisconsin Badgers have been beaten out for one of their priority class of 2027 targets.

It's been a tough week on the recruiting trail for the Wisconsin Badgers. Despite Luke Fickell's undeniable success locking down in-state talent, the program continues to come up short against top out-of-state prospects.

The latest miss? Four-star linebacker Tate Wallace, a standout from Iowa who announced his commitment to the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound defender chose the Gophers over Wisconsin and Arizona State, marking the second time in just days that the Badgers have lost a priority target for the class of 2027.

Wallace, currently ranked as the No. 2 player in the state of Iowa and the No. 29 linebacker nationally by 247Sports, will finish his senior season at Regina High School in Iowa City before heading to Minneapolis. For Badgers fans, it's a familiar sting—especially after the team also failed to land four-star cornerback Raheem Floyd earlier in the week.

Still, there's plenty of reason for optimism in Madison. Wisconsin's 2027 recruiting class remains ranked inside the Top 15 nationally, and with summer visits heating up, Fickell's staff has ample opportunity to add more firepower. The key will be turning those close calls into commitments, especially when going head-to-head with Big Ten rivals like Minnesota.

For now, Badgers faithful will have to watch another talented prospect slip through their fingers—but the recruiting season is far from over.
