Big news out of Madison! Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey freshman forward Blake Montgomery has taken the next major step in his career, signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL's Ottawa Senators.

The signing comes on the heels of a memorable season for the Badgers, who made an incredible run to the NCAA Frozen Four national championship game. Montgomery is part of a wave of Wisconsin talent transitioning to the pro ranks this offseason.

In his freshman campaign, the Bowie, Maryland native made an immediate impact, skating in 38 games and contributing 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists). He flashed his scoring potential with a standout two-goal performance against rival Minnesota back in November.

Montgomery's journey will continue immediately in the Senators' system. According to the team, he will join their AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators, on an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) to finish this season, getting a crucial early taste of professional hockey.
