The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey program is turning pro. Forwards Quinn Finley and Blake Montgomery have officially forgone their remaining NCAA eligibility, signing professional contracts and accelerating their journeys to the NHL.
This move represents a significant talent drain for the Badgers' roster. Finley, the team's second-leading scorer, leaves with one year of eligibility remaining, while Montgomery departs with three. Alongside injured 2025 first-round pick Logan Hensler, they were among the highest-drafted players on the Wisconsin squad this past season.
Quinn Finley, a Suamico native and a 2022 third-round selection, has inked a two-year entry-level contract with the New York Islanders, set to begin next season. The Islanders announced the signing, securing a promising forward who developed his game in Madison.
Finley bid a heartfelt farewell to Badgers fans on social media, writing in part: "Ever since I was young, wearing the Wisconsin jersey was something I dreamed about, and these past three years have meant more to me than I can put into words. Coming to Madison was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made."
For athletes at this level, the transition from collegiate stardom to the professional grind is the ultimate test. It's a leap that demands not just skill, but the right mindset and gear to compete. While their Wisconsin chapter closes, the next one begins on pro ice, where every shift counts.
