The Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team has significantly bolstered its frontcourt with a major addition from the transfer portal. Hofstra forward/center Victory Onuetu has officially committed to the program, bringing a specific and elite skill set to Madison.
Standing at 6-foot-10, Onuetu is more than just size. During his junior season at Hofstra, he established himself as one of the nation's most relentless rebounders. His offensive rebounding rate of 17.2% ranked an impressive ninth in the entire country, a statistic that promises second-chance opportunities and extra possessions for the Badgers. In just under 18 minutes per game, he averaged 6.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks, showcasing his efficiency and defensive presence.
Head coach Greg Gard is clearly excited about the new addition, highlighting Onuetu's athleticism and impact. "He's an extremely talented, athletic front-line player that gives us excellent rim pressure in transition, lob threats in the half court, shot-blocking capability and relentless rebounding," Gard said in a statement. He also praised Onuetu as an "extraordinary person" who fans will enjoy getting to know.
Onuetu, a native of Spain, represents the second transfer portal acquisition for Wisconsin this offseason, joining former George Washington guard Trey Autry. The Badgers have also added Australian point guard Owen Foxwell, signaling a proactive approach to retooling the roster for the upcoming campaign. This infusion of talent, particularly Onuetu's tenacity on the glass, provides a solid foundation for the team's future success.
