In a heart-pounding finish at Texas Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott edged Denny Hamlin by just four-tenths of a second after 267 laps of intense racing. The victory marked the second time this season the two rivals have finished 1-2, and it was a race full of drama, strategy shifts, and unexpected twists.
Elliott, who started 14th, led a race-high 87 laps and never put a wheel wrong. His No. 9 team executed flawlessly, especially during a tense final restart where he held off Hamlin’s charge. With this win, Elliott joins Tyler Reddick as the only drivers with multiple victories in the 2026 season. He’s now third in the points standings, knocking on the door of second, and this marks the earliest he’s ever earned multiple wins in a season. He’s also the only Hendrick Motorsports driver to visit Victory Lane so far this year.
On the flip side, Christopher Bell was the day’s biggest heartbreak. After leading 22 laps early and battling Hamlin for the Stage 1 win, disaster struck when Todd Gilliland spun directly in front of the leaders. Bell tried to go low, but that’s exactly where Gilliland’s car was heading. The contact sent the No. 20 into the wall, ending his race with a last-place finish and just a single point. The result dropped him four spots in the championship standings.
Another standout was the No. 43 team, which stayed out on strategy and capitalized on the chaos to gain valuable track position. The race was a roller coaster of ever-shifting strategies, with seven cautions and plenty of movement throughout the field. In the end, it was the top drivers battling it out, and Elliott came out on top in a performance that signals even more success ahead.
