Just three games into the WNBA season, Dallas Wings head coach Jose Fernandez has already delivered a wake-up call that echoes through the locker room. Following Thursday's tight 90-86 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, Fernandez didn't hold back, calling out selfishness and a lack of accountability among his players.

"There's selfishness in this locker room," Fernandez stated bluntly during his postgame press conference. "You gotta look in the mirror and be accountable." The coach, brought in to revitalize a team that went a combined 19-65 over the past two seasons, made it clear that individual agendas have no place in a winning culture.

Fernandez expanded on his concerns, addressing the emotions surrounding playing time and shot selection. "Don't get upset if you think you should have played more, or didn't get the shots you think you deserved," he said. "Really good teams, they don't give a s*** about that. They give a s*** about winning, because that's what matters."

The Wings currently sit at 1-2 after opening the season with a thrilling 107-104 victory over the Indiana Fever, followed by two narrow losses—each decided by five points or fewer. While the competitiveness marks an improvement over recent struggles, Fernandez clearly expects more than moral victories.

Though he didn't name specific players, the message was unmistakable: the runway for excuses is short, and the standard for effort and teamwork is non-negotiable. For a team looking to rebuild its identity, this early-season reality check might be exactly what the Wings need to find their stride.
