Dundee striker Joe Westley didn't mince words after his side's crucial 1-0 victory over St Mirren, calling it a "massive" result—but he's quick to remind everyone that the fight for Premiership survival isn't over yet.
The Dark Blues edged out the Paisley side at Dens Park on Saturday thanks to Westley's early strike, which proved to be the difference in a tightly contested match. The win has given Dundee some breathing room, lifting them six points clear of the relegation play-off spot—a position now occupied by St Mirren after Kilmarnock's win over Dundee United.
With just three games remaining in the season, Dundee have a golden opportunity to secure their top-flight status next weekend when they host already-relegated Livingston. A victory would make it mathematically certain, but Westley is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
"We are not safe until it is mathematically done, so we need to keep focused and make sure that come next week we put ourselves safe," Westley said. "It is a massive win. We had to defend resolutely. St Mirren caused us some problems with their overloads in midfield and we had to adapt in the game, but we got the goal and I think we defended really well to see out the game. It is a massive three points in our season."
The striker also emphasized the importance of building momentum at this critical stage of the campaign. "Wins breed confidence," he added, "and we have to take confidence from the good things."
