Williams Racing is building serious momentum as they prepare for the Canadian Grand Prix, with Team Principal James Vowles confirming a "sizeable" upgrade package is in the works for Montreal. After a promising showing in Miami, where the team debuted a comprehensive overhaul and walked away with valuable points, the Grove-based squad is proving they're not resting on their laurels.
The Miami upgrade was no minor tweak—it included a brand-new floor, revised bodywork, front wing modifications, altered rear suspension, exhaust blowing developments, and a meaningful reduction in car weight. For a team that started the 2025 season on the back foot with an overweight car, these improvements were a breath of fresh air, delivering both performance gains and a much-needed boost in confidence.
"We have more performance coming from Montreal," Vowles confirmed. "It's an odd situation where we've got these two weeks, and we want to maximize them to the best of our ability before the grand prix. The pipeline is still a bit up in the air as to what we can 100% deliver, but there could be a nice sizeable amount of performance."
Currently sitting eighth in the constructors' standings with five points, Williams is just nine points behind Racing Bulls—a gap that feels increasingly within reach. But Vowles is keeping a realistic perspective, acknowledging that rival teams like Mercedes, Audi, and Haas are also expected to bring upgrades to Montreal.
"The reality is, other teams will bring performance as well at the same time," he said. "So, it's just what we're bringing. Is it sufficient to maintain ground against those three teams? It's hard to predict right now. I'm happy with what we've got in the pipeline—both with weight reduction and aerodynamic developments. But it's hard to know where that will position us."
For Williams fans, the message is clear: the team is on an upward trajectory, and Montreal could be another step forward in their fight to climb the midfield. With a smart upgrade strategy and a hungry team behind them, the Canadian Grand Prix is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in their season.
