Mother Nature has already stolen one game from the Red Sox during this homestand, and if the latest weather models are any indication, she's gearing up for an encore. The Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies are facing a serious rain threat for tonight's series rubber match at Fenway Park, and fans might need to adjust their plans.

According to this morning's HRRR weather model, a powerful southerly flow of moisture is set to sweep off the Atlantic Ocean and drench eastern New England from the afternoon into the early evening. The good news? Around sunset, the rain's orientation is expected to shift, gradually moving northward as the wind gains an easterly component. The million-dollar question is whether that shift happens fast enough to give the Red Sox and Phillies a window to play.

Boston certainly has plenty of motivation to get this game in. On paper, the Red Sox hold the pitching advantage with left-hander Jesus Luzardo taking the mound against Philadelphia's Ranger Suarez. After dropping the first game of the series to weather, the home team would love to avoid another postponement that could disrupt their momentum.

Unfortunately, the forecast isn't cooperating. There's simply too much potential for rain bands to keep reforming over eastern Massachusetts throughout the evening, making a delay or postponement seem more likely than not. If the game does get washed out, both clubs will have to sacrifice a mutual off day—a tricky situation since the Phillies aren't scheduled to return to Fenway Park this season. Interestingly, both teams do share an open date next Thursday, May 21st, which could serve as a potential makeup window.

For now, Red Sox and Phillies fans alike will be watching the skies and refreshing their weather apps, hoping for a break in the clouds that could save this pivotal series finale.
