The Northern Kentucky Norse men's basketball program has secured a significant addition to its frontcourt, landing a commitment from transfer forward Will Shortt. The 6-foot-8 Australian announced his decision to join the Horizon League squad via Instagram.
Shortt brings two seasons of NCAA Division I experience from his time at Niagara University. After a freshman campaign where he averaged 3.6 points and 3.0 rebounds, he took a notable step forward this past season. In 2023-24, his role expanded significantly, as he started 25 games and posted averages of 6.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in just over 19 minutes per contest, showcasing his development and readiness for a larger role.
His basketball journey is an international one. Hailing from Sydney, Shortt played club basketball for Basketball Auckland before honing his skills at the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida. He was also teammates at Niagara with former Moeller High School guard AJ McBride, giving him some familiarity with talent from the Cincinnati area.
For Norse fans, Shortt's commitment addresses a need for size and athleticism in the paint. His improving rebounding and scoring touch, combined with his high-major prep school pedigree, make him a player to watch as NKU looks to build on its recent successes in the Horizon League. This move signals an active and promising offseason for the program.
