Wierzba lands second commit

New University of Evansville women's basketball head coach Ben Wierzba is already making moves on the recruiting trail, securing his second commitment just days into his tenure. The latest addition to the Aces' roster is Marina Artero, a versatile forward transferring from the University of Louisiana.

Artero, a 5'11" junior from Spain, brings valuable experience and a strong work ethic to Evansville. This past season with the Ragin' Cajuns, she appeared in all 31 games, making 19 starts while averaging 1.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. Her ability to contribute on the boards and her defensive presence make her an exciting piece for Wierzba's rebuilding project.

Before her time at Louisiana, Artero began her collegiate career at Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania. Now, she'll look to make an immediate impact as a key component of Wierzba's first roster at Evansville. The coaching staff is clearly focused on building a competitive foundation, and Artero's experience at two Division I programs should be invaluable for a team looking to turn the corner.

For Aces fans, this commitment signals that Wierzba is wasting no time in shaping the future of the program. With the transfer portal now a critical part of roster construction, adding a player with Artero's versatility and game experience is a smart step forward.
