Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway walked off the stage at "Tigers on Tour" in far better spirits than this time a year ago.

Penny Hardaway stepped off the stage at The Owner's Box in Lakeland with a smile that told the whole story. "I feel better than last summer," the Memphis basketball coach said after the first stop of the athletic department's "Tigers on Tour" event on May 12. "Much, much happier now. Feel really good right now."

It's a stark contrast from this time a year ago, when Hardaway was anxiously waiting on two critical developments that never materialized. Former Tigers All-American guard PJ Haggerty was considering a transfer, and Hardaway was holding out hope the NCAA would grant all-conference big man Dain Dainja another season of eligibility. Haggerty ultimately transferred, and Dainja's waiver request was denied. The result? A rushed and incomplete offseason roster build that left the team scrambling.

Fast forward to today, and the difference couldn't be more pronounced. Hardaway and his coaching staff have taken a proactive approach, locking down 14 of a possible 15 roster spots. The latest addition is FAU transfer big man Maxim Logue, according to multiple sources, giving the Tigers a formidable presence in the paint.

This newfound stability has Hardaway feeling optimistic about the season ahead. With a deeper, more complete roster and the lessons of last summer fresh in mind, Memphis basketball is shaping up to be a team to watch—and their coach couldn't be happier about it.
