Xavier Legette is running out of time to prove he belongs with the Carolina Panthers. Entering just his third NFL season, the 2024 first-round pick is already facing a make-or-break moment that could determine his future with the team.

Legette was heavily targeted as a rookie, leading the Panthers in receptions in 2024. But Carolina has aggressively reshaped its wide receiver room, and the depth chart is getting crowded fast. What once looked like a clear path to playing time is now a tight squeeze.

According to ESPN's Ben Solak, the emergence of undrafted free agent Jalen Coker and the drafting of 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan have already pushed Legette to No. 3 on the depth chart. And now, the Panthers have added another threat: Chris Brazzell II.

Brazzell, selected 83rd overall in the 2026 draft, is a 6-foot-4, 198-pound wideout from Tennessee who ran a blistering 4.37-second 40-yard dash. His size and speed profile is eerily similar to Legette's own draft pedigree, and that's exactly why his arrival matters. While Brazzell is a raw route runner coming from a college system that doesn't translate easily to the NFL, he represents the kind of field-stretching threat that could eventually replace Legette if the veteran doesn't step up.

Legette's draft status means he won't be cut outright, but the benefit of the doubt is gone. He needs to prove he's a reliable option before the Panthers decide to promote Brazzell into that deep-threat role. If he continues to lose targets, a demotion—or worse—could be on the horizon.

For a player who was once the centerpiece of Carolina's receiving corps, this is a critical juncture. The clock is ticking, and Legette's spot on the roster is far from secure.
