Los Angeles is heavy underdogs in Oklahoma City.

The Los Angeles Lakers are facing an uphill battle as they tip off their Western Conference semifinal series against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night—and they're doing it without their superstar point guard.

Luka Doncic remains sidelined with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, an injury that has kept him out for roughly a month. While LeBron James continues to defy age and Austin Reaves has stepped up admirably, the Lakers are heavy underdogs against a Thunder squad that enters as defending champions and features reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Without Doncic's playmaking and scoring punch, Los Angeles faces a daunting task in OKC.

The Lakers managed to survive the first round against the Houston Rockets without Doncic on the floor, but the Thunder present a much stiffer challenge. As ESPN's Shams Charania reported, Doncic has been labeled "week-to-week" in his recovery—a timeline that suggests he could potentially return during this postseason, but not immediately.

"He's doing more and more on the court," Charania said on Inside The NBA. "But right now, still not full-fledged running or full-contact workouts."

Doncic was spotted shooting alone during the Lakers' practice on Monday, but he has yet to progress to scrimmage work with teammates. Lakers head coach JJ Redick offered no new updates when asked by reporters, simply stating there's "no update" on the Slovenian star's status.

For Lakers fans, the waiting game continues. The hope is that Doncic can return to action before the series slips away, but for now, Los Angeles must find a way to compete without its engine.
