Andrija Jelavic, a Kentucky transfer, found his new home at Ohio State, seeking a big role while bringing a winning mentality.

When Kentucky transfer Andrija Jelavic entered the transfer portal, he had a clear vision for his next destination. The 6-foot-11, 235-pound forward/center from Croatia wanted more than just a new jersey—he wanted a program where he could make a significant impact.

"I was looking for an opportunity to have a big role at a school that has great basketball program as well as great basketball history," Jelavic said.

He found exactly that at Ohio State. Committing to the Buckeyes for the 2026-27 season, Jelavic joins a formidable frontcourt that includes fellow countryman Ivan Njegovan, veteran redshirt senior Josh Ojianwuna, and newly signed freshman Vuk Lazarevic. The timing of his commitment—roughly a month before Lazarevic joined the roster—shows Jelavic's confidence in the path head coach Jake Diebler has laid out.

"My talk with the coach and his vision of my role for the team, as well as being a good fit and him believing in me, were major factors of me committing," Jelavic explained.

Diebler, now entering his third season at the helm, quickly connected with the talented big man. Jelavic described their relationship as built on mutual respect and shared ambition. "We are both very open and straightforward on our goals for this season, as well as his task for me and the role he wants me to play. We both have a winning mentality and are just ready to give it all for winning."

Before arriving in the States, Jelavic played professional basketball in his native Croatia. That experience, combined with a season at Kentucky, has prepared him well for the next chapter. During his time with the Wildcats, he averaged 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds across 32 games, earning a starting role for the final 20 contests. He also showed range from beyond the arc, attempting 2.4 three-pointers per game.

"I experienced what it is like to play college basketball at the biggest levels and what does it take to win," Jelavic said. "I think that experience is what will be great for me in my second season."

For Buckeyes fans looking to gear up for the upcoming season, this addition signals a team building for sustained success—with a winning mentality that Jelavic and Diebler both share.
