Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, a Super Bowl LII champion, is now facing serious legal challenges off the field. The retired NFL star has been charged with two felony counts of insurance fraud related to a 2025 car crash in San Diego County, California.
According to court records, Jeffery, 36, was involved in a collision on north Interstate 5 on September 21, 2025, with a Lyft driver. The incident caused significant damage to both vehicles, with repair estimates exceeding $10,000 for the Lyft and over $13,000 for Jeffery's 2021 Mercedes.
The situation escalated when it was discovered Jeffery's insurance policy had lapsed for non-payment nearly a month before the accident. Three days after the crash, he obtained a new policy and subsequently filed a claim, allegedly reporting the collision occurred on September 28—a week later than the actual date.
Jeffery's representative, Denise White, stated to USA TODAY Sports, "The underlying incident was a minor freeway fender bender... These are unfounded allegations only, and Alshon has not been convicted of any offense. He will address this matter through the legal process."
The legal proceedings have seen complications, with Jeffery missing a March 9 arraignment, leading to an arrest warrant issued on March 18. He was arrested on April 15 and is scheduled for arraignment on April 23.
This development marks a stark contrast to Jeffery's celebrated NFL career, where he was known for his clutch catches and pivotal role in the Eagles' historic Super Bowl victory. His journey from championship glory to facing felony charges serves as a reminder of the challenges athletes can encounter in life after sports.
