Chennai Super Kings beat Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in their IPL match on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, with Urvil Patel and Prashant Veer playing key roles in the chase of 204. Veer, coming in as an impact player, finished unbeaten on 18 off 12 balls. Urvil Patel had earlier set up the chase with a rapid start.

In a thrilling IPL clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings chased down a daunting target of 204 against Lucknow Super Giants, winning by five wickets with four balls to spare. The heroes of the night? Two young guns: Urvil Patel and Prashant Veer.

Veer, stepping in as an impact player, kept his cool under pressure. Despite being dropped twice in the 19th over bowled by Avesh Khan, he held his nerve. With the finish line in sight, he smashed two consecutive sixes off Aiden Markram to guide CSK to 208/5, finishing unbeaten on 18 off 12 balls.

But the fireworks truly began with Urvil Patel. Opening the innings, he exploded with a breathtaking 13-ball fifty, equaling the record for the fastest half-century in IPL history. In a stunning display of power-hitting, he became the first batter ever to hit six sixes in his first eight deliveries of an innings. He raced to 41 off just eight balls, shattering the previous best of 33 runs in that phase.

After reaching his milestone, Urvil pulled a paper slip from his pocket with a heartfelt message: "This is for you Papa." The gesture was a touching tribute to his father, Mukesh Patel, whose influence has been the bedrock of Urvil's journey.

Hailing from Mehsana, Mukesh Patel was a university-level sprinter before becoming a physical training teacher. He channeled that athletic passion into shaping Urvil's fitness and cricket skills from a young age. Signed by CSK for his base price of Rs 30 lakh, Urvil had already shown flashes of brilliance with a 31 off 11 balls earlier in the season.

Mukesh’s dedication is legendary. In a 2024 interview, he revealed the emotional toll of Urvil's early setbacks: "When Urvil was not selected in the IPL Auction, we were all very nervous and so much disappointed that we didn’t eat for two days." He also shared a quirky insight into Urvil’s training diet: "He must have eaten more than three big bags of chana till now. It is said that chana is the food of horses. My son can also run like a horse on the field. At 55, I too can run faster and compete with anyone."

This innings wasn't just a record-breaking knock—it was a son's love letter to a father who never stopped believing.
