The spring high school sports season is heating up in the Greater Taunton area, and we've got a new standout to celebrate. Last week, Taunton baseball's Javien Nunez took home the Taunton Daily Gazette High School Boys Athlete of the Week honors for April 20-26, earning 46% of the vote. He edged out Dighton-Rehoboth lacrosse's Jameson Murphy (42%) and Bristol-Plymouth baseball's Jake LaPlante (5%) in a close race.

The action on the field was intense: Taunton boys volleyball rallied to hold off Dighton-Rehoboth in a thrilling three-set battle, while Taunton baseball locked down key Hockomock League wins. Dighton-Rehoboth lacrosse pulled off an overtime victory against South Coast Conference rivals Seekonk, and Bridgewater-Raynham lacrosse added two solid non-league wins. On the track, both Bridgewater-Raynham and Dighton-Rehoboth finished second in their respective MSTCA Divisional relays—a strong showing for the area's athletes.

Here's a quick look at some of the standout performances from the week: Keenan went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs against Mansfield, while Benevides delivered a 3-for-4 performance with two runs and two RBIs against Southeastern. In lacrosse, Lima scored the game-winning overtime goal and added an assist against Seekonk. On the track, Alves finished second overall in the pole vault (11 feet) at the MSTCA Division 2 Relays, and Gifford took second in the javelin (45.92 meters) at the Division 5 Relays.
