Vermont has produced some truly legendary girls basketball talent over the years, and now it's time to settle the debate: Who is the greatest of all time?
The Burlington Free Press has compiled a list of the state's all-time best players, featuring stars who dominated at the high school level and went on to shine in college and beyond. From record-breaking scorers to defensive standouts, this lineup is stacked with talent that any young athlete would look up to.
Among the nominees is Nicole Andres (Levesque), who scored over 1,600 career points during her standout run at Wake Forest. Kari Greenbaum made her mark as a star for both Brattleboro High School and the University of Vermont. Emily Kinneston, a former Champlain Valley star, was known for her tenacious defense, as seen in a January 2014 game against Rice.
Jade Huntington, now the head coach at St. Johnsbury, was a force on the court before taking the helm. Cory Mullen-Rusin earned Miss Basketball honors in 2005, while Libby Smith showcased her skills for UVM in the 2002 NIT. Becca Bright starred at South Burlington High School before continuing her career at the University of Rhode Island.
Jasmyn Huntington Fletcher was a scoring machine at Oxbow Union High School, pouring in 2,000 career points between 1992 and 1996. Jennifer Niebling, a Randolph Union and UVM legend, earned a spot in the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Sarah Schreib took home Miss Basketball honors in 1992, and Kim Silloway made her mark at St. Johnsbury Academy before earning All-ACC second-team honors at Virginia.
Rounding out the list is Morgan Valley, who dazzled for Rice during the 2000 Division I state championship game at St. Michael's College. Each of these players left an indelible mark on Vermont basketball, inspiring the next generation of hoopers.
