The high school baseball playoffs are heating up, and while the regular-season rankings may be taking a brief pause, the lohud Baseball Player of the Week Poll, presented by White Plains Hospital, is still going strong. This weekly honor shines a spotlight on the standout athletes who are making big plays on the diamond—and this week’s nominees are no exception.
Last week, eight players were nominated, but it was Blind Brook’s Alejandro Pena who took home the crown. Pena put on a show at the plate, going 5-for-8 with a home run, three walks, four runs scored, and nine RBIs across three wins. He joins an impressive list of past winners, including Harrison’s Zach Davidson, Iona Prep’s Sean Concannon, Pearl River’s Drew Wooster, and Mamaroneck’s JP Donahoe—all of whom have shown what it takes to dominate during the season.
Now, coaches have nominated five new athletes for their performances from May 4 to May 10. Voting is open until Wednesday at 3 p.m., and the winner will be announced on lohud sports social media. Whether you’re a fan of power hitting, clutch pitching, or slick fielding, this week’s group has something for everyone.
Action on the field has been intense, with key matchups like John Jay versus Somers showcasing top talent. Pitcher Henrick Zhai delivered from the mound, while shortstop Nate Summer showed off his glove work. On the Somers side, pitcher Ryan McAuley commanded the rubber, first baseman Lorenzo D’Ambrosia scooped up grounders, and shortstop Evan Murolo made plays all over the infield. It’s this kind of all-around effort that makes high school baseball so exciting to follow.
Don’t miss your chance to vote for the player who stood out the most. Who will join the ranks of past winners? Make your voice heard before the polls close!
