Munetaka Murakami is not just adjusting to MLB; he is rewriting history with every swing.

The Japanese slugger arrived with massive expectations, but even the most optimistic projections did not quite look like this.

Power was always part of his game, but the consistency with which he is delivering it has caught the entire league off guard.

And with another home run added to his tally, Murakami has now crossed into territory that simply has not been seen in over a century.

As highlighted by Slangs On Sports on X, Murakami’s start to his MLB career is unprecedented.

“Munetaka Murakami’s first 12 MLB extra-base hits have been home runs, that extends the longest such streak to start a player’s MLB career since at least 1900. Prior longest: 10, 2016 Dae-ho Lee.”

Every extra-base hit he has recorded so far has cleared the fence. No doubles, no triples, just pure home run production.

It is the kind of start that immediately separates him from even the most powerful hitters in the game, especially this early into a career.

Through the opening stretch of the season, Murakami is tied for the MLB lead with 12 home runs while playing for the Chicago White Sox.

He has produced an OPS close to 1.000 and is generating elite contact, with exit velocities and hard-hit rates ranking among the very best in the league.

What stands out most is how pitchers have tried to approach him. Early scouting suggested he might struggle against high velocity, which has led many teams to challenge him in the strike zone.

When Murakami gets a pitch in the zone, he is punishing it. His ability to avoid chasing bad pitches while still generating elite power has forced opponents into a difficult position.

There is a tradeoff, though. His game comes with strikeouts, but it has not slowed the impact. Between walks, home runs, and patience at the plate, he continues to create pressure every time he steps in.

At this rate, this is no longer just a hot streak. It is a statement. Murakami is not easing into MLB; he is reshaping expectations for what a rookie slugger can look like.
