The Chicago White Sox are on fire, and they showed it again tonight with a commanding 6-0 shutout victory over the Los Angeles Angels. The win pushes the South Siders to within just half a game of first place, and fans have plenty to cheer about.
Right from the first pitch, the White Sox set the tone. Angels starter José Soriano struggled early, issuing back-to-back walks before recovering with two strikeouts. But the damage was done. Chase Meidroth and Andrew Benintendi followed with back-to-back RBI singles, giving Chicago a quick 2-0 lead before Soriano could escape the inning.
On the mound, Davis Martin was simply electric. The right-hander kept the Angels off balance all night, allowing just five hits over seven innings with zero walks and a career-high 10 strikeouts. Travis d’Arnaud finally got Los Angeles’ first hit in the third inning, but Adam Frazier immediately grounded into a double play, keeping Martin facing the minimum through three.
The White Sox offense kept rolling in the fourth. Sam Antonacci reached base for the third time in the game, setting the stage for Munetaka Murakami, who crushed a two-run homer to put Chicago up 4-0. Not to be outdone, Miguel Vargas followed with a solo shot of his own, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Murakami made history two innings later, finally notching his first career double. Believe it or not, that ended an MLB record streak of 14 consecutive extra-base hits that were all home runs—a remarkable stretch of power.
Martin continued to dominate, reaching nine strikeouts by the sixth inning on just 68 pitches. He notched his 10th strikeout in the seventh before calling it a night, having allowed just five hits and no walks while striking out 10.
In the eighth, Colson Montgomery added an RBI single to extend his on-base streak to 17 games. Sean Newcomb took over in the eighth and retired the Angels in order, then struck out the side in the ninth to seal the shutout win.
With this kind of pitching and timely hitting, the White Sox are looking like serious contenders. Every game matters as they chase that top spot, and nights like this show just how dangerous this team can be.
