A double-steal in Charlotte highlights a split night for the farm

The Charlotte Knights are back at .500, and they did it in style. In an 8-5 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Knights put together a true team effort that had fans buzzing—and it all started with a heads-up double steal in the fifth inning.

LaMonte Wade Jr. and Jacob Gonzalez pulled off the highlight-reel play, with Wade swiping second while Gonzalez dashed home. It was the kind of aggressive baserunning that turns heads and, for Gonzalez, could be a ticket to the big leagues. Wade, meanwhile, continued his on-base tear, working two walks to push his OBP to .396 and adding a timely two-run single that put Charlotte ahead 5-3.

Caden Connor has quietly become a reliable force in the Knights' lineup. He went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, bringing his season totals to 17 RBIs and 22 walks. That plate discipline is a welcome sight for a team looking for consistent production.

On the mound, starter David Sandlin struggled to get through two innings, leaving the game tied at 3-3. But the bullpen stepped up in a big way. Chris Murphy tossed two scoreless frames, and Jonathan Cannon—recently demoted and working his way back—earned a hold by allowing just one run over 3⅔ innings. While his ERA remains an ugly 9.87, this outing is a step in the right direction. Ben Peoples closed the door with 1⅓ innings of clean relief, continuing to establish himself as one of the system's top relievers.

It wasn't all good news on the farm, though. The Birmingham Barons dropped the first game of a doubleheader against Knoxville, 8-1. The Barons managed just four hits and four walks while striking out 11 times in the seven-inning affair. It was a flat performance from a team that usually brings more fight.

Still, the Knights' win gives the organization some momentum. If the bats stay hot and the bullpen keeps delivering, Charlotte might be a team to watch as the season rolls on.
