Dash drop a dozen while late bullpen woes plague the system

The White Sox minor league system had a mixed bag of results on May 12, with some explosive offense and late-inning heartbreak defining the day across the organization.

The Charlotte Knights put up a six-spot early, but their bullpen couldn't hold the line in a 9-6 loss to the Norfolk Tides. The game started like a dream for Charlotte. Rikuu Nishida led off with a double, advanced on a groundout, and then watched as three straight Knights drew walks to force in the first run. Oliver Dunn followed with a laser-beam double to right, clearing the bases and giving the Knights a 3-0 lead before many fans had settled into their seats.

But baseball has a way of humbling you quickly. The Tides answered with three runs in the second inning, chasing starter Duncan Davitt before he could finish his second frame of work. The Knights (19-21) showed some fight in response. Caden Connor launched a solo home run, and Kyle Teel—fresh off the injured list and making his first rehab start—crushed a two-run bomb to put Charlotte back on top, 6-3.

That's when the wheels came off. Norfolk battered reliever Brandon Eisert for four runs in the third, snatching the lead for good. The Tides added two more in the fourth on a pair of doubles off Garrett Schoenle. Jordan Leasure provided a clean fifth inning, and Chris Murphy tossed two quiet frames, but the damage was done. Norfolk tacked on an insurance run off Adisyn Coffey in the ninth, sealing the Knights' fate.

Down in Birmingham, the Barons suffered a different kind of heartbreak. Jake Palisch delivered a quality start—six innings, two runs (one earned), six hits, one walk, and five strikeouts—but the offense couldn't give him enough support in a 3-2 loss to the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

The Barons (14-20) trailed 2-0 after the Trash Pandas plated a run on an RBI double in the second and another on a throwing error in the third. Birmingham finally came alive in the fifth. Wilfred Veras singled and scored on a Jordan Sprinkle double to right. Samuel Zavala worked a walk, and a passed ball allowed Calvin Harris to trot home, knotting the game at 2-2.

The score stayed deadlocked until the ninth inning, when reliever Jairo Iriarte—who pitched a clean eighth—couldn't find the same magic. A walk, a successful bunt, and a wild pitch put the Trash Pandas ahead for good, sending the Barons to another tough defeat.
