Arsenal and England defender Ben White is set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Arsenal and England defender Ben White has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a significant knee injury—a devastating blow that will also see him miss this summer's World Cup.

The 28-year-old was forced off during the first half of Arsenal's hard-fought 1-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday, and was later spotted leaving London Stadium in a knee brace. The club have confirmed that White sustained a "significant medial ligament injury," which will sideline him for the Gunners' final two Premier League matches as well as the Champions League final on 30 May.

"Our medical team are now managing Ben's recovery and rehabilitation programme, with everyone fully focused on supporting the aim of Ben being ready for the start of our pre-season preparations," the club stated.

This is a particularly cruel twist for White, who had only recently earned his way back into the England squad after more than three years away. He featured in March's friendlies against Uruguay and Japan—even scoring in the draw with Uruguay—and seemed poised to secure a spot in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Tuchel is set to name his final squad on 22 May, but White's recovery timeline makes his participation virtually impossible.

For Arsenal, the timing could hardly be worse. The Gunners are chasing a first Premier League title in 22 years and need wins against Burnley and Crystal Palace to seal it. They also face Paris St-Germain in their first Champions League final in two decades. White had been a key figure in both pursuits, starting the last five matches and forming a dynamic partnership with Bukayo Saka on Arsenal's right flank. His performance in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid was particularly outstanding.

With fellow defender Jurrien Timber also sidelined by a groin injury, manager Mikel Arteta has been forced to improvise. Against West Ham, he shifted Declan Rice to right-back before introducing 21-year-old Cristhian Mosquera in that role. While Mosquera has shown immense promise, asking a youngster to start a Champions League final against PSG's elite attackers is a tall order.

For White, this is not just a professional setback but a personal heartbreak—missing what could be a historic climax to Arsenal's season, and a World Cup that would have marked his return to the international stage.
