Commanders fans, it's time to get excited about the future. While rookie minicamp is just a taste—players jogging through plays without pads—it's also the first chance to see which newcomers might make an impact. According to insider Ben Standig, two Washington rookies caught his eye during the weekend session.

First up is Clemson wide receiver Antonio Williams, selected in the third round at No. 71 overall. Standig told BMitch & Finlay on 106.7 the Fan that Williams showed immediate promise. "Watching him do his thing, just getting off the line of scrimmage. The hands, where he's catching the ball. A couple of times, you could see the burst, and the traits that made him attractive to a team looking to get more pop at that spot," Standig noted. For a Commanders squad seeking more explosiveness in the passing game, Williams' early flashes are a positive sign.

The other standout was edge rusher Joshua Josephs, a fifth-round pick at No. 147. Standig highlighted the rookie's physical tools: "Watching Josephs, his length was pretty evident as well. He is going to have a pretty simple role in his rookie year: go get the quarterback. And in my view, the second part of that is: get ready for 2027, when you are going to need more when these defensive ends/edge types are becoming free agents." It's a smart long-term perspective—Josephs can focus on his pass-rushing specialty now while developing into a more complete player down the line.

Of course, minicamp optimism comes with a dose of reality. Not every rookie will make the final roster, and standout moments in shorts don't guarantee Sunday success. But as Standig pointed out, a few players usually separate themselves from the pack. For Commanders fans, Williams and Josephs are names to watch as the offseason progresses.
