Michigan football is making serious noise on the recruiting trail, and the 2027 class just got a major boost. The Wolverines landed their highest-rated commitment yet when Kalamazoo Loy Norrix offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey chose the maize and blue over LSU, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Minnesota. According to 247Sports, Lipsey is the No. 66 overall player in the country, immediately becoming the top-ranked prospect in Michigan's class.

Of course, recruiting is a game of ups and downs. Just a week ago, the Wolverines lost four-star safety commit Darrell Mattison. But with Lipsey now in the fold, head coach Kyle Whittingham's squad is climbing back up the team rankings. Before Lipsey's pledge, Michigan sat at No. 40 nationally. Now, they've jumped to No. 30 in the 247Sports Composite, leapfrogging Ole Miss in the process.

At the moment, the Wolverines have six commitments in the 2027 class: four composite four-stars and two three-stars. While 247Sports is highest on Lipsey, the composite rankings show him just one spot above the previous top commit, Muskegon four-star edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, who checks in at No. 116 overall.
