Dabo Swinney's Clemson Tigers will be a threat in the ACC if it gets this type of production from Christopher Vizzina at QB in 2026, CBS Sports says.

All eyes in Death Valley will be on a new signal-caller this fall. For the first time in three years, Clemson football is set to begin a season with a first-year starting quarterback when they kick off against LSU on September 5th.

The man expected to take the reins is redshirt junior Christopher Vizzina. A former four-star recruit, Vizzina has been waiting in the wings behind Cade Klubnik, who has now departed for the NFL. The 2026 season presents his long-awaited opportunity to lead Dabo Swinney's Tigers.

While he only has one start under his belt, Vizzina made it count. In a loss to SMU last October, he showcased his potential by completing 29 of 42 passes for 317 yards, three touchdowns, and, crucially, zero interceptions. It was a promising debut that offered a glimpse of a high-ceiling arm.

That performance is exactly what CBS Sports referenced when ranking Vizzina No. 44 among all 68 projected Power Four starting quarterbacks for the upcoming season. In their recent rankings, he sits between other ACC talents, just behind Louisville's Lincoln Kienholz and ahead of Virginia's Beau Pribula.

The analysis from CBS highlights the faith Coach Swinney has shown, opting not to seek a transfer portal quarterback and instead placing the offense in Vizzina's hands. The message is clear: if Vizzina can consistently deliver at the level he showed against SMU, Clemson has the quarterback play to be a serious threat in the ACC title race.

After a disappointing 2025 campaign, the Tigers' resurgence hinges on this transition. With a total of 406 yards and four touchdowns across his five appearances last year, Vizzina has shown flashes. Now, the challenge is to turn that potential into week-in, week-out production, starting with a massive opening test in Baton Rouge.
