Chet Holmgren has been a defensive anchor for the Oklahoma City Thunder all season, a key reason why the team sits atop the NBA standings as the title favorite. While individual awards are secondary to the ultimate team goal, recognition for that defensive dominance is on the horizon.

With Victor Wembanyama the clear frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year, Holmgren is widely expected to finish as the runner-up. That position all but guarantees the 7-foot-1 center his first career selection to the prestigious NBA All-Defensive Team—a fitting honor for the cornerstone of the league's best defense.

For Holmgren, who also earned his first All-Star nod this season, such recognition is meaningful but not defining. "Individual awards are great," Holmgren said. "I think they're around to reward players for the hard work that they put in. Anytime I'm able to be honored for something like that, I never take it for granted."

His impact is undeniable. Since his arrival, Holmgren has been among the league's most feared shot-blockers and the central figure in Oklahoma City's defensive identity. Over the past two seasons, the Thunder have boasted the NBA's top-rated defense, using that relentless, chaotic style to secure a championship last year. While the offense has had its fluctuations, the defense, led by Holmgren, has been a constant, championship-caliber weapon.

An All-Defensive Team selection would formally cement Holmgren's status as one of the game's premier defenders. It's a testament to the hard work and rim-protecting prowess that has helped propel the Thunder to the pinnacle of the league. For fans and players alike, it's a recognition that sometimes, the best offense is a truly unstoppable defense.
